Sometimes love takes you by the hand and leads you to run through fields of flowers while butterflies weave you a dress out of rainbows. Other times, love takes you by the throat and chokes you until all you see is the bright, sharp trail of shooting stars right before everything turns to black. The problem is, you can never tell in advance which way the story ends, not until you’re too far into it, and you have no choice but to keep turning the pages.

4 stars

I love Megan Hart. I love the way she writes. The way she doesn’t sugarcoat any of the stories she tells.

The heroine, Elise, is a very sexual character. She has certain tastes that most of us aren’t used to but she enjoys. Some of the things she enjoys I would never think about doing. Yeah, it’s out there!

All in all I thought this was a good read. In my opinion Elise cried too much. It was a little bit of a put off for me but other than that, I enjoyed the story. The other characters were great as well. I wish I hadn’t waited so long to read it.

LAYERS PEELED is the second book in the Layers Trilogy that is not to be missed.  Picking right up from LAYERS DEEP, LAYERS PEELED takes you through more twists and turns with lots of suspense, passionate sex, pregnancy hormones and a quick wedding near the end.

Tristan’s brows narrowed in a playful frown as he glided toward me and took me by my hips.  “I love a strong woman who speaks her mind.”

“What else do you love about me?” I lifted my arms around his neck, feeling his perfect naked front against me.  His growth poked me in my stomach and I fought the urge to spread wider to accommodate him so he could finally have his lovely cock inside me.

“I love you kick-ass moves when you flip my brother on his back.”

“What else?” I bit my lip, pressing my chest harder to him, acutely aware of the “L” game we were playing.

“I love your hair, your eyes, your tits, and your ass.” He grabbed my backside.  Something stirred deep inside my belly.  There was nothing that could arouse me more than Tristan’s dirty mouth.

“What else?”

“I love Puss.” He lowered his hand to my belly, rubbing it around the navel, the touch not only full of love and compassion but also desire.  A tingling sensation rekindled deep in my core.  The flickering spark turned into a small flame. Part of me wanted to hand to slide even lower, but the gentle caress of his palm felt smooth.

I closed my eyes, savoring the touch, and whispered, “What else?”

“I love you.”

And instead of waiting for me to speak, or being insecure that I hadn’t said anything, Tristan lowered his mouth to mine and kissed me like he didn’t need to hear my reply because he already knew it.  How could he not? I’d been in love with this man for weeks.  I couldn’t quite place when or where  it happened, because everything he had done for me and with me — I just couldn’t imagine anyone else in my life like that other than him.  I trusted him with my life and my soul.

…I looked into his eyes and said, “I love you too, Tristan Cross.” Not because I had to and not because he’d said it first, but because I wanted to.

The characters are still wonderful.

I felt like Allie’s character wasn’t as strong as she was in the first book, but I think maybe it was all the pregnancy hormones? I don’t know.  I also don’t think the story was as suspenseful as LAYERS DEEP  because of her pregnancy. Having said that, I enjoyed the love story that kept unfolding. Nothing is better than a happily ever after and this book delivers.

Tristan was still yummy.  I felt as if he let Allie do a lot of things I necessarily wouldn’t have thought he would have, for example, still go undercover working.  I would have thought he to be more over protective, but nonetheless, it was still an enjoyable story.

The only complaint I will make on the book is that it’s way TOO SHORT! I want more! I love the hero and heroine and can’t wait to read the next book by Ms. Silks. She can write such a wonderful tale and the love scenes are scorching hot! I absolutely have recommended her books to all of my friends. You cannot go wrong with a Lacey Silks book.

What does it matter if Kate, Lady d’Allenay, has absolutely no marriage prospects?  She has a castle to tend, an estate to run, and a sister to watch over, which means she is never, ever reckless.  until an accident brings a handsome, virile stranger to Bellecombe Castle, and Kate finds herself tempted to surrender to her houseguest’s wicked kisses.

Disowned by his aristocratic family, Lord Edward Quartermaine has turned his gifted mind to ruthless survival.  Feared and vilified as proprietor of London’s most notorious gaming salon, he now struggles to regain his memory, certain of only one thing: he wants all Kate is offering–and more.

But when Edward’s memory returns, he and Kate realize how much they have wagered on a scandalous passion that could be her ruin, but perhaps his salvation.

 My Review:

4 Wicked Stars!

Whee… that was fun! This book left me quite pleased, albeit a little breathless, at the end.  Such a witty, wicked, sexy, and enjoyable read with a splendid HEA.

The only problem I have with the book–don’t judge me but I look at covers–is that the Edward is BLONDE headed in this story, not dark brown or black like the inside cover suggests.

Ah, yes. Blonde like this gorgeous hunk of a man. This is Edward. Ladies, you can thank me later.

Now, as I was saying…

The hero and heroine are so well written. Kate and Edward have a chemistry that sizzles off the pages. Yes, the intense attraction between the couple is just buttercream icing on the cake. Chemistry and an intriguing plot, to boot!

“Kate, love, are you sure?”

She nodded, and reached for him.  “Oh, Edward,” she whispered, “I am so sure.”

It was the sound of his name on her lips that nearly broke him.

“I am sure of you,” she went on.  “I am sure this is right.”

God help him, but he was sure, too.

And even then, Edward knew that a part of him was holding the truth at bay.  he felt in that moment as if he could have remained by her side forever, lost in the sweetness of her.  Lost in the solitude of this place, and the steady warmth of Kate’s gaze.

And he knew, just as surely, that it would never be.  That he was taking what he did not deserve. Tainting, perhaps,  a pure innocence.  And for an instant, he felt the hot press of tears behind his eyes again.

“Make love to me,” she murmured.  “Pleasure me. Please.”

He hadn’t the strength to say the word that honor required. Perhaps he hadn’t any honor at all. He did not know.

“I will, love,” he assured her. “In time. But you’re the sort of woman a man should love slowly.”

Kate is written as not very pretty, or rather, just plain.  I came to think of her as beautiful.  Her personality shines.  I loved this heroine.

Edward…. ah, dear Edward.  Yes, he’s one hunky hero.  I would be wicked with him any day. I adore bad boys.

There’s depth here, and Ms. Carlyle  peels through the layers until we’ve unknowingly invest ourselves in the characters.  I simply adore the secondary characters as well and there’s even a pug in this story.  Who doesn’t love an adorable dog that brings a little laughter to the story? Loved little Filou… um, fat Filou.

But it was not just a friendship, was it? It had become far more the moment he kissed her that afternoon by her parlor window.  He hadn’t even known who the hell he was, but the moment Kate had opened beneath him, sighing so sweetly into his mouth, he had known that he was lost.

He had claimed her in that moment–in his heart if not his head–and she had been his ever after.  Except that he had never told her so.  He had never told her that he loved her.  Never confessed to her that something inside him had altered; had torn from its moorings and flown to her, and that she now held his heart, bitter and scarred as it was, in her slender but capable hands.

It was such a fun read that I zipped through it in just 2 days.

Hurry, hurry, Ms. Carlyle! I’m ready for more.

“Kate, I love you so,” he said. “Do you love me?”

“Desperately, damn you,” she said impatiently. “I confessed as much some days ago.”

“I love it when you curse,” he said, the words muffled against her throat.

“I never did so before,” she said. “I wonder why the tendency has so lately come upon me?”

He laughed again, and let his lips slide down the long, pale turn of her neck. “Kate, my beautiful seductress, I will give up all my wicked ways and quit London and gaming both if–”

“Good,” she interjected.  “You should. Wickedness is never rewarded, no matter what Aurelie says.”

Read this book and you’ll continue to smile to the end. 😉

Review: The Many Sins Of Lord Cameron

Book Blurb:

He is a man of simple tastes—and complex pleasures…

Cameron Mackenzie is a man who loves only horses and women—in that order—or so his mistresses say.

Ainsley Douglas is a woman with a strong sense of justice and the desire to help others—even if that means sneaking around a rakish man’s bedchamber.

Which is exactly where Cam finds her—six years after he caught her the first time. Only then, she convinced Cam she was seeking a liaison, but couldn’t go through with it because of her husband. Now a widow, she’s on a mission to retrieve letters that could prove embarrassing to the queen. Cam has no interest in Ainsley’s subterfuge, but he vows to finish what they started those many years ago. One game, one kiss at a time, he plans to seduce her. And what starts out as a lusty diversion may break Cam’s own rules—and heal the scars of a dark and damaging past..

My Review:

4 sinful stars!

Oh my, my.  Where to begin?

I’ve been reading this series from the beginning and found this book to be riveting. Jennifer Ashley has created some of the best Scottish heroes I’ve ever read.  Every single one of the Mackenzie men are yummy and such a absolute delight to read about.

And the covers on the books? HAWT!

There’s something about a man in a kilt that will make me swoon. Kilts are sexy anyway you cut it.  Add in a little Scottish brogue and I’m a goner! Need I say more?

“I am a bad man, very bad, but in a different way. I want to ravish you until we’re both senseless with it, and then I want to do it all over again.”

Two wounded people… one physically, one emotionally… brought together six years ago. There is also Cameron’s son, Daniel, intertwined throughout the story and the dialogue between all of them flows nicely.  The relationships are wonderfully conflicted and are satisfying.

Reading about any Mackenzie can only compare to sipping on whiskey. The  experience as you sip and savor, the aroma and the burn that makes the senses come to life… complications and dysfunction that is the Mackenzie way of life.

As always with a Jennifer Ashley romance — the beginning will intrigue you and the ending will please you…

Review: Layers Deep (Book One)

Book: Layers Deep

Author: Lacey Silks

Oh my goodness!  I don’t know where to begin….

This book left me breathless!

He took a deep breath of courage and then exhaled, saying, “I should have done this yesterday.  If I don’t taste your lips, I won’t get any work done.”

I couldn’t even reply.  In an instant, my words were muffled by his mouth, and everything inside me shut down.  My body went limp, melting into the seat as my arms flopped at my sides.  His hands cupped my face, the pads of his thumbs caressing my cheeks back and forth as his tongue spread my lips, sliding into my willing mouth.  He explored inside me, tending to every nook.  The longing of his soft kiss pulsed through my whole body, and I forgot who I was and where I was.  I had no strength to resist him.  I could no longer deny Cross and responded to him, opening my mouth wider, letting my tongue dance with his.  A hint of scotch flowed to me as he lingered around my gums and moaned deep inside me.  If I had ten tequilla shots, all at once, I doubted they’d knock me off my feet as hard as Cross had.  The world spun, the car spun, and when he finally pulled away, I couldn’t believe what had happened and how much his kiss awakened the woman inside me.

Layers Deep is wrought with emotion, intensely sensuous, and so very well written that I could not put it down.  This book is very well written.  Extremely riveting characters (even the secondary ones) have you turning page by page until the last. Allie and Tristan were interesting and engaging.  The love scenes were hot! I was truly ensnared.  The plot was suspenseful and intricate.  The ending left me with my mouth hanging open and wanting to read the next story. Brava, Ms. Silks!  I’m waiting in limbo!

Review: Escaping Reality (The Secret Life of Amy Bensen)

I’m on a roll with Contemporary & Erotica Romances as of late…. but oooh how I’m loving them!

My rating: 4 stars

Book: Escaping Reality (The Secret Life of Amy Bensen)

Author: Lisa Renee Jones

Publisher: Julie Patra Publishing

**Book does have cliffhanger ending.**
**Sexual content for 18+**

I don’t know even where to begin. This book had me twisted every which a way until I finished in the wee early hours this morning. It left me scratching my head with more questions I wanted answered than anything.

Amy Bensen is an interesting and yet frustrating character. At times I completely sympathized with her and then other times I wanted to slap her upside her head. I really, really did. She doesn’t trust people (except for one… she blindly trusts a stranger she calls her guardian angel) and then she meets Liam Stone.

Ah, yes. Liam Stone. Tall, dark, and sexy. Oh, and he’s a billionaire. Yeah. He’s dominant, and completely smitten with Amy (I’m still unsure exactly why– at times her character comes across as a little boring). It’s all a little “50 Shades” but that’s ok. He comes with his own sort of baggage. His character is interesting though. I liked reading about him.

The beginning of the story had me captivated and I kept turning page after page. The love scenes are 5 stars worthy. I believe that the author has a great plot to work with and I definitely want to read the next book. Two BIG thumbs up!

Review for Megan Hart’s: Tear You Apart

tear you apart

GovernessInRed’s Book review for “Tear You Apart”

Author: Megan Hart

Publisher: Harlequin Mira

Pages: 304

Pub: 2013

My rating: A++++

5 Bittersweet Stars!!!

This is the first book I’ve ever read by Megan Hart. It freakin’ took my breath away. The characters in this book feel so real.

What I planned when I started this book one evening was just reading a few chapters and falling asleep. Nope, didn’t happen. I faintly recall starting it at 9 o’clock and not stopping until 2 the next morning. It was definitely one of those kind of books.

It’s listed as an erotic romance. What I found it to be was much more. It’s deep. It’s twisted. It’s everything that’s not supposed to be in a story but is. It’s an emotional roller coaster that will have you thinking: “What the hell?” and the next moment have you tear up.

*Note: If you dislike reading about two people having an affair you will not like this story. *

The story is the heroines POV. Elisabeth is one of those kind of characters that simply pull you in from the beginning and having you want to know everything about her before the second chapter. She’s human. She makes mistakes. I love the fact that Ms. Hart lets you see how much the character battles out her decisions and how raw and believable the story is.

Elisabeth is married with two grown daughters and works for her best friend. Her life always looks perfect from the outside.

Then she meets him. Will Roberts is handsome and off limits. He’s everything that a woman could want… if she happened to be single. Then eventually she looks at him or he looks at her and all reason flies out the window. The moment comes when they finally gave into temptation & passion and all the consequences that come with it and it was all my heart could do not to beat out of my chest.

I was completely engaged from the first word until the last. Ms. Hart’s talents sparkle. This book is incredibly well written. I am so glad I had the chance to review it. The story absolutely consumed me… heart, mind and soul.

Review for “Surrender Your Love”

GovernessInRed’s review for “Surrender Your Love”

Author: J.C. Reed

Pages: 324

Pub: 2013

My rating: C+     (3.5 stars)

First let me start off by saying I started this book yesterday and also finished it as well.  It didn’t take long once I started reading.

The book started off by reminding me a little bit like Fifty Shades but then kinda got it’s own plot. The main character is Brooke and she’s a realtor.  The whole book is her POV.

Jett is the dangerous, smexy guy that she meets and he doesn’t exactly tell her who he really is.  The next thing you know they are in bed together.  Yeah. *sigh* It sounds like another typical romance novel. Rich guy meets girl.  Girl likes guy. They sleep with each other.  Before you know it, they’re in love. Then disaster strikes… AND there’s a cliffhanger ending!!

I really liked both characters.  I feel like the relationship between the two was a little rushed. Really rushed.  I think it’s still over all a good read.  I like the banter between the two characters and I even liked the roommate, Sylvie.

Would I read the next one? Yes. Most definitely.  I think the plot has potential and the author does write well.  This ebook is also lendable (which I LOVE)!!! I think it’s awesome anytime a good book can be read/loaned by others.

“Lady Danger” smolders off the pages…

Holy Wow! Finished up this baby last night. I did stay up later than I intended but that’s okay because this book was worth the loss of sleep.

I give this one five fantastic stars! Glynnis Campbell is a talented author and I am already started on the second one in this series. First time I’ve read anything by her. I HIGHLY recommend this book if you like Scottish romances.

The characters absolutely smolder on the pages and the chemistry is stellar. To say the hero is yummy is an understatement. Seriously. *swoon* Give this one a go. You will not regret it.
